Johanna’s story

Johanna’s life in gymnastics began at age 4 in Baltimore, Maryland doing recreational gymnastics. She believes that gymnastics is a great sport for everyone to learn because it helps build a strong body and mind. Growing up she always loved teaching and learning. Gymnastics coaching was a natural fit.

I have memories of “teaching” the other children at daycare. I would write letters on the board for them to trace. I always knew I wanted to grow up and be a teacher of some sort, and when the opportunity to become a gymnastics coach happened my freshman year in college, I jumped at the opportunity.
— Johanna

Johanna began her coaching career in 2003 in Austin Texas where she was also going to college (University of Texas at Austin). After graduating college, Johanna was a preschool teacher for a little while, but she missed being in the gym so much that as soon as she moved to Dallas she applied to be a coach. She has been working as a coach ever since. She loves helping children to succeed and gets to do so every day.

Teaching a child a new skill is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. When their eyes light up that first time they successfully achieve a new skill, it’s an amazing feeling.
— Johanna

Johanna has a wide gamut of teaching and coaching experience ranging from teaching preschool classes to coaching competitive team at compulsory levels. Before moving to Boise, Johanna coached a team in Keller, Texas. This makes her a well rounded coach and a great asset to our gym.

Johanna joined the Danik staff in 2017 as a recreational coach. Her experience and skill quickly shined through and she began to manage our recreational program. Not long after that she was invited to join the competitive team coaching staff. On top of continuing to help manage the recreational program, she has been coaching the competitive team compulsory levels since 2018. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Johanna also helps run the front desk on weekends.

When she’s not coaching or administrating here, she loves to spend time with her two beautiful children.
